5 of the Worst Horror Movies Ever Made

Horror movies have the unique ability to thrill and chill audiences, taking them on a rollercoaster ride of fear and suspense. However, not all horror films hit the mark, and some become memorable for all the wrong reasons. Today, we’re diving into the abyss of horror cinema to explore five films that have been widely regarded as some of the worst ever made.
These movies have earned their notoriety through a combination of poor production values, laughable special effects, and plots so thin they couldn’t scare a mouse. So, without further ado, let’s unveil these cinematic catastrophes that have become cautionary tales for filmmakers and horror enthusiasts alike.
One Missed Call (2008)

With a staggering 0% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, “One Missed Call” stands as a testament to how not to remake a horror movie. This Americanised version of the Japanese original failed to deliver the scares, instead offering bland performances and predictable shocks. Critics and audiences alike were left unimpressed, making it a frontrunner in the race to the bottom.
Jaws: The Revenge (1987)

This sequel to the iconic “Jaws” series is infamous for its illogical plot and subpar special effects. With a paltry 2% rating, “Jaws: The Revenge” is often mocked for its premise of a shark seeking vengeance, which stretches the suspension of disbelief to its breaking point. Even a role for cinema veteran, Michael Caine, can’t save this movie. Caine was paid $1.5million for just one week’s work plus he enjoyed a nice Caribean holiday for himself and his family. When asked if he had seen himself in this humdinger of bad movie, a very candid Caine smiled wryly and quipped, “I have never seen the film, but by all accounts it was terrible. However, I have seen the house that it built, and it is terrific.”
Cabin Fever (2016)

A remake that no one needed nor asked for, the 2016 rehash of “Cabin Fever” managed to secure a 0% rating, thanks to its uninspired retelling of the original 2002 flesh-eating virus tale. The film is criticised for its lack of originality and failure to add anything new to the horror genre.
The Disappointments Room (2016)

Living up to its name, “The Disappointments Room” disappointed critics and viewers, earning a 0% rating. Even the deliciously talented Kate Beckinsale couldn’t save this film’s attempt at a psychological thriller, which was was met with criticism for its lack of thrills and an underwhelming storyline.
Homecoming (2009)

Completing our short list is “Homecoming,” a film that tried to blend obsession and thriller clichés but ended up with a 0% rating. It’s a movie that makes viewers wish they had opted for something else… …anything else.
These films serve as a reminder that horror is an art form that requires a delicate balance of elements to succeed. When that balance is off, the result can be a film that’s more likely to induce laughter than screams. Whether it’s a misguided sequel, a lacklustre remake, or a plot that’s too absurd to be frightening, these movies have secured their place in the annals of horror history—not as masterpieces, but as lessons in what not to do.
So, the next time you’re in the mood for a horror movie, you might want to steer clear of these titles… unless, of course, you’re in the mood for a good laugh or a lesson in the pitfalls of horror filmmaking. Either way, these films are unforgettable, but for all the wrong reasons. Happy (or should we say, horrifying) viewing!
