EVENT: Tynemouth Station Book Fairs 2026

EVENT: Tynemouth Station Book Fairs 2026

February 3, 2026 Colin Lawson Comments 0 Comment

In 2026, the Tynemouth Station Book Fairs will once again turn a beautiful station into one of the liveliest book-hunting spots in the North East.

Set in the heart of Tynemouth, the fairs will take place inside the grand Victorian space of Tynemouth Station, where iron arches and glass roofs will provide a backdrop you simply will not find at a standard book hall.

On fair days throughout the year, the platforms will fill with long lines of tables stacked high with books. Independent booksellers will travel in from across the region, unloading crates of hardbacks, paperbacks, and the odd curious oddity that no one knew they needed until they spotted it. Shoppers will be able to flick through first editions, hunt for long-lost childhood favourites, and pick up bargain reads for a rainy weekend.

There will be a cheerful sense of discovery to the fairs. One moment, visitors will be leafing through local history books about coastal life and shipbuilding; the next, they will stumble across crime novels, cookbooks, poetry pamphlets, or a well-worn classic at just the right price. Conversations will spark easily, often beginning with “I used to have this book” or “Have you read this one?”

In these FREE to enter events held bi-monthly between April to October throughout the year, the atmosphere will stay relaxed and good-humoured. People will wander with coffee cups, dogs will snooze under tables, and everyone will come and go as if the whole thing is perfectly normal – but it’s all a little different. Regulars will greet familiar stallholders like old friends, while first-time visitors will quickly realise they are free to browse, chat, and linger as long as they like in a most convivial atmosphere.

By the time 2026 draws to a close, the Tynemouth Station Book Fairs will once again have done what they do best. They will have brought together readers of all ages, supported independent sellers, and proved that a love of books can thrive anywhere, even on a busy station platform by the sea.
